Leslie Castillo

 

LUPTON — Funeral services for Leslie Castillo, 48, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in Lupton Arizona family plot.

Castillo died April 26, 2011, in Lupton. He was born Oct. 12, 1962, in Winslow, into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the Zia Pueblo People Clan.

Castillo graduated from Valley High School. He worked as an iron worker and carpentry. He served in the United States Armed service in the National Guard. Castillo was employed with the Navajo Nation Police Department. He enjoyed sports, fishing, hiking, joking and spending time with the family.

Survivors include his brothers, John Castillo Jr., of Lupton, Jim Castillo of Page, Jeffrey Castillo of Mentmore, Ray Castillo of Tse Bonito, Jackson Castillo of Sawmill, Ernest Castillo of Albuquerque, Leonard Castillo of Lupton, Gilbert Castillo of Kayenta; sisters, Nancy Brown of Lupton, Marilyn Lee of Lupton, Susan Charlie of Gallup, Irene Castillo of Albuquerque, Carol Murphy of Sanders, Ruth Hovel of Chandler, Rita Roan of Lupton, Ann Castillo of Phoenix, Clara Castillo of Phoenix; grandparents, Vera S. Castillo, Jose Nejo.

Castillo was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Castillo, John Castillo Sr.; brothers, Ello Castillo, James Castillo, Wilbur Castillo; sister, Esther Castillo.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Castillo, Emery Lee, Darryl DeBoise, Zane Scott.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Lupton Chapter House, following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Crossland

MARICOPA — Memorial services for Gloria Ann Crossland, 82, wil be April 30, at Celebration of Life Presbyterian Church, Mesa.
Crossland died Tuesday, April 12. She was born March 7, 1929, in Harvey, Ill.

Crossland was raised in Greenville, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati and Defiance College where she obtained a teaching degree in Music and Elementary Education. She was an avid traveler in her younger years and had visited 48 of the 50 states. She especially loved Hawaii which she visited in the 70s with a group of teachers and friends from Ganado. In 1969 she and her husband moved with their children to Ganado, in the heart of the Navajo Nation. She taught Elementary Music and 4th grade. She continued teaching there until 1981 when she retired and moved to Mesa. Crossland was a member of the Ganado Presbyterian Church and helped with the choir at the church. She loved the outdoors, traveling, reading, listening to music and watching all kinds of sports on television.

Survivors include her children, Kimberly of Holbrook, Mark of Mesa, Annie of Maricopa, Robert of Mesa, Matthew of Burlington, Iowa, Candace of Maricopa; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Crossland was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; great-granddaughter Mykala Nasbah Chee; parents, Opal Holloway Huddle and Henry H. Huddle.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a reception following the service.

Olivia Gonzalez

THOREAU — Funeral services for Olivia Verdugo Gonzalez, 28, will be 10 a.m., April 30, 2011, in Thoreau Church of God. Dr. Ray Barker will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m, Friday, at Rollie Mortuary Chapel.

Gonzalez died April 23, 2011, in Jamestown. She was born July 15, 1982, in Gallup, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Gonzalez graduated from Thoreau High School in 2000, and attended UNM for 1 year. She worked for Motel 6 as a front desk assistant manager for 10 years.

Survivors include her parents, Martin and Martha Gonzalez; brother, Stewart J. Wilson; sisters, Luticiar Calladitto, Megan V. Gonzalez; grandparents, Alicia Gonzalez, Felipe Verdugo.
Gonzalez was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim Wilson, Bah Charley Wilson.
Pallbearers wil be Stewart J. Wilson, Russall “Boxer” Barker, Myron J. Wilson, Pete Becenti, Richard Thomas, Derek James.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Thoreau Church of God Fellowship Hall, following services.

Andrew Henderson Jr.

WHEATFIELDS — Graveside services for Andrew Henderson Jr., 57, were 10 a.m., today, April 29, in family plot. Danny John will officiate.

Henderson died April 25, 2011, in Wheatfields. He was born July 21, 1953, in Wheatfields, into the Red Bottom People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bydonnie of Klagetoh; sons, Randall Henderson of Klagetoh, Reginald Henderson of Chinle, Ryan Henderson of Lukachukai, Lance Henderson of Phoenix, Tyran Henderson of Lukachukai, Cimarron Henderson of Lukachukai; daughter, Andreana Henderson of Phoenix; brothers, Freeman Henderson of Wheatfields, Harold Henderson of Mexican Springs; sisters, Addie Billy of Tsaile, Alice Descharme of Wheatfields; numerous grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randall Henderson, Reginald Henderson, Ryan Henderson, Tyran Henderson, Lance Henderson, Harold Henderson.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Wheatfields Chapter House, following services.

Alicia Pena

GRANTS — Rosary and funeral Mass for Alicia Pena, 76, will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 2, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avilla will be the Celebrant.

Pena died April 27, 2011, in Grants. She was born on March 21, 1935 in Guadalupe, Zacateca, Mexico.
Pena made her home in Grants for the last 48 years. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt.

Survivors include her husband, Fermin Pena of Grants; sisters, Sophia Madrigal of Los Angeles, Calif., Teresa Apodaca of Grants; brothers, Antonio Becerra, Juan Manuel Becerra both of Guadalupe, Zacatecas, Mexico.

Pena was preceded in death by her daughter, Esperanza Pena; parents, Manuel Becerra and Augustina Becerra (DeLaRosa); sisters, Esperanza Hernandez, Beatriz Serrano, Maria Becerra.

Esther Sandoval

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Esther D. Sandoval, 81, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, at Joshua Generation For Jesus, Gallup. The Rev. Dennis Gallegos and Rev. Milton Shirleson will officiate. Burial will be in Tohatchi Community Cemetery.

Sandoval died April 27, 2011, in Gallup. She was born May 5, 1929, in Fort Defiance, into the Edge of the Water People Clan for the Red Running Into the Water People Clan.

Sandoval graduated from Wingate High School in 1951, and attended college in Oklahoma. She retired from Chuska Boarding School as a Dorm Aid after 23 years of service. She served with the Tohatchi Veterans Organization for 13 years from 1998-2010.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Sandoval of Tohatchi; sons, Virgil Sandoval of Tohatchi, Marvin Sandoval of Thoreau, Galen Sandoval of Albuquerque; daughter, Bernadette Sandoval of Tohatchi; sister, Milda Quirero of Gallup; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Sandoval was preceded in death by her mother, Katie Dawes of Gallup; sister, Dorothy Martin of Gallup; brother, Melton Dawes of Gallup.
Pallbearers will be Steve Ausherman, Jeremy Gray, Matthew Martin, Brian Sandoval, Jeremy Sandoval, Douglas Quicero.


The family will meet at Joshua Generation For Jesus Church, 1375 Elva Dr., 10 a.m.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Travis Sands

IYANBITO/MARIANO LAKE — Funeral services for Travis Andy Sands, 22, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, at Rollie Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Harry Largo will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery.

Sands died Feb. 11, 2011, in Mariano Lake. He was born Dec. 30, 1988, in Gallup, into the Sagebrush People Clan for the Mud People Clan.
Sands completed 12 grade at Wingate High School and was attending Job Corp for welding in Albuquerque. He enjoyed free drawing, book reading, taming horses, spending time with family and making people laugh.

Survivors include his parents, Sadie Sarracino of Iyanbito, Mark Sands of Mariano Lake; brothers, Kyle Sands, Monty Sands of Iyanbito; sisters, Amy Sands, Veronica Sands, Elizabeth Sands, all of Iyanbito; grandparents, Shirley Kee of Albuquerque, Paul Sarracino of Lukachukai, Alice Martin of Mariano Lake, Frank Sands of Shiprock.
Sands was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Anna King, Frank and Elizabeth Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Malklom Ambrose, Edward Morgan, Tommy Kee, Samuel King, Calvin Sam, Nicodimas Lucero.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Iyanbito Chapter House, following services.
